Yarmouth Arts presents world-renowned sculptor, Jesse Salisbury

“The Work of Jesse Salisbury: Stone Sculpture Symposiums & Large Scale Public Art,” in Celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Yarmouth Arts Alliance

Jesse Salisbury, an accomplished sculptor of international renown, will be the guest speaker of the Yarmouth Arts Alliance on Wednesday, May 6th, 2026 at 2:00pm, in the Merrill Memorial Library Lewis Hall at 215 Main Street in Yarmouth.

Over a seven-year period from 2007-2014, Jesse was the driving force behind five Schoodic International Sculpture Symposiums in Maine which drew a global collection of sculptors to create 34 large stone pieces across a 270-mile span of Maine landscape. Weaving through picturesque towns, waterfront parks, and along ragged coastlines, his efforts became the Maine Sculpture Trail.

According to Activity Maine.com, Steuben resident Jesse Salisbury “organized the symposium as a way to spark cultural activity in the area and, in the process, created a large, public art collection.” The symposiums were held in Downeast Maine in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2014.

Linda Horstmann, co-chair of the Public Art Committee of the Yarmouth Arts Alliance commented, “We are incredibly fortunate to claim Jesse Salisbury as one of our own in Maine. His contributions to public art, here, and across the world, are unmatched.”

Horstmann continued, “Jesse has just returned from Kasaoka City, Okayama, Japan where he created a large granite sculpture entitled “Wind Castle” for the Narumoto Stone Company. We could not be more grateful that he has made time in his schedule to share his vast expertise and talent with us as we celebrate our 25th year of promoting art at the local level. I strongly encourage anyone interested in this medium, or public art, to attend.”

The Public Art Committee of the Yarmouth Arts Alliance invites high school and college art students to attend as well as representatives from area arts organizations and municipalities interested in learning more about bringing sculpture to life in a variety of outdoor settings. There will be time for attendees to ask questions, and interact with Jesse Salisbury, as part of the event. There is no cost, as the lecture is underwritten by Centerline Design & Build, though space is limited so reservations must be made in advance to Linda Horstmann at hendhorstmann@gmail.com . Please include the number of guests in your reservation.

Looking to the future, the Yarmouth Arts Alliance will be seeking partners to hold a sculpture symposium in Yarmouth, Maine. Interested individuals, artists, sculptors, and area arts organizations are invited to reach out directly to Linda Horstmann at the event email address.

About the Yarmouth Arts Alliance – Celebrating 25 years

Inspired by the collaborations and events of previous community art groups, the Yarmouth Arts Alliance (previously known as Yarmouth Arts) was formed in 2001 bringing together a diverse board of directors that included members of local nonprofits with an art component and the Town of Yarmouth Director of Economic Development, and Director of Planning & Development.

For 25 years, the Yarmouth Arts Alliance has focused its energy on promoting the arts in Yarmouth and increasing awareness of the benefits of the arts for the community as art plays an important role not only in the future of the economic development of a community, but in elevating a community’s sense of wellbeing. Art simply makes a community a happier and healthier place to be.
